What happens when we begin to see machines not as passive tools, but as active collaborators in shaping our world? On 14 November, CCU hosts the launch of Joost Rekveld’s new book Liberate the Machines!, an evening that combines a book launch and film screening with a conversation between Joost Rekveld and artist/writer Marloes de Valk.

Joost Rekveld has long been exploring the hidden lives of technology, asking how machines can be liberated from purely functional purposes and instead become partners in artistic and ecological research. His work invites us to consider the agency of technological bodies, and how they might participate in a wider web of more-than-human relations. Marloes de Valk (NL) is a software artist and writer in the post-despair stage of coping with the threat of global warming and being spied on by the devices surrounding her.

We reflect on the role of machines in our shared futures, as part of CCU’s wider research as a Zoöp.
