An old Android phone operating as a web server powered by solar energy hosting the website of the GROUND exhibition. Rein van der Woerd’s Solar Server is built entirely of found and repurposed materials, often donated by inhabitants of the Hof van Cartesius. This work was inspired by Low Tech Magazine’s solar server in Barcelona and is being progressively developed in collaboration with designer Marie Verdeil. Relying on the intermitted power of the sun, Solar Server forces us to reckon with scarcity and the fragility of the ecosystems that support us.
